Everything families need for the school day: simple, secure, connected. EduLens K-5 brings messaging, dismissal, safety updates, classroom updates, and more into one simple parent experience.

EduLens is the software running behind the front desk, the carline, and the classroom. Most of it you will never see. This page is the short version of what it does, what it does not do, and what your family gets out of it.
Same School. Stronger Together.
One app for the messages, the forms, the calendar, and the ride home. Your school licenses it. Your family uses it free.
What is EduLens?
EduLens is a school safety and communication platform. It signs in and screens every visitor, verifies every child at dismissal, puts an emergency alert in the hands of every staff member, and replaces the folders, paper forms, and group texts with one app. Your school licenses it. Your family uses the parent app for free.
Three things that change the day your child walks in
Safety is most of what EduLens does, and almost none of it is visible from the parking lot. Here is what is actually running.
Every adult is screened at the door
No adult walks past the front desk unscreened. The office scans an ID, and before the visit is approved EduLens checks the name against the national sex offender registry and against the school’s own list of people who are not permitted on campus. Anyone on that list is refused at the desk, and no one at the desk can override it. Approved visitors wear a printed badge with the date on it.
No child leaves unaccounted for
Every student has a scannable card. At dismissal, staff scan each child at the door they are actually leaving from, whether that is the bus, the carline, aftercare, or a club. At the end of the day the school sees one screen listing every student and how they left. Anyone not accounted for is found before the building closes. If a card is lost, the school shuts it off instantly and issues a new one.
One tap reaches 911 in seconds
Any staff member can trigger an emergency alert from their phone, silently, without walking to an office or finding a landline. Every staff member is notified at once. For a lockdown or a shelter-in-place, EduLens also dispatches 911 automatically: dispatchers receive the school’s registered address and the nature of the incident, and local police receive a message, without anyone having to stop and explain where they are.
If you ever need to tell the school something quietly
Children tell their parents things they will not tell an adult at school, and parents sometimes hesitate to put a concern in an email with their name on it. EduLens has a tip line for exactly that. You can report a safety concern, something you have heard about bullying, or a problem with the building, without your name attached.
It is anonymous in a way you can check rather than take on faith. Your account is never recorded against the tip, only a scrambled value the system uses to stop abuse, and it cannot be turned back into your name. You keep a short tracking code, so you can follow what happened and read the school’s reply without ever identifying yourself.
A tip is not an emergency line. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 and then the school office.
One app instead of five
The part your family touches every week. It replaces the group text, the paper form, the newsletter, and the folder nobody checks.
Direct messages with your child’s teacher
One to one conversations, inside the app. No personal cell numbers change hands in either direction, and there are no group threads to get lost in.
Announcements that actually arrive
School, grade, and classroom news arrives as a notification instead of a flyer at the bottom of a backpack. Urgent messages sound on your phone. Routine ones stay quiet.
The school calendar in your pocket
Events, early dismissals, and closings, kept in one place by the office rather than retyped into a newsletter.
Forms you sign with your finger
Permission slips and school forms are completed and signed in the app. Nothing to print, nothing to find a pen for, nothing to send back in a folder.
A window into the classroom
Teachers can post photos and short updates from the room. You see what the day actually looked like, not just what your child remembers at dinner.
Your child’s progress, not just problems
Schools using behavior tracking recognize good days as they happen, and you see your own child’s points and recognition. You are not only hearing from school when something goes wrong.
The things that used to need a phone call
Reporting an absence, changing who is picking up, getting health information to the nurse. All of it from your phone, at whatever hour you remember it.
Attendance
If your child is marked absent or late, you are notified that morning rather than at the end of the week. You can see your own child’s record, and you can report an absence yourself in the app, including a full week ahead of time for a trip or a procedure.
Dismissal changes
Grandma is getting them today, or they are skipping the bus for a dentist appointment. Submit the change in the app and the school confirms it. No note in a folder, no call to an office line at 2:45.
The nurse’s office
Health information, allergies, and medications live where the nurse can see them, including on a field trip. You can submit health information from the app, and anything involving medication is held until the nurse reviews it.
What EduLens does not do
It does not track your child. Neither the parent app nor the staff app asks for your location or your child’s, because neither one uses it. Dismissal works by scanning a card at a door, the same way a library book is checked out. There is no map, no live tracking, and no location history, because the software never collects it in the first place.
It does not send emergency alerts to parents. This one is worth being clear about, because it is the opposite of what most people assume. When an alert fires, it goes to staff and, for a lockdown or shelter-in-place, to 911. It does not go to families. That is deliberate: in a real incident the first minutes belong to the people responding, and a parking lot filling with cars makes that harder. Your school will communicate with you, on its own timing and in its own words, through an announcement. The alert is what gets help moving.
It does not sell anything to your family. There is no advertising in the app, no in-app purchase, and no upsell. The school pays for the software. That is the entire business model.
Your child’s information, and who can see it
EduLens holds what the school provides and what normal use generates: your child’s name, grade, classroom, attendance, dismissal plan, and the messages and forms your family exchanges with the school. It holds no academic grades and no financial information, and no medical detail beyond what a school nurse needs.
That information is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to build a profile of your child. It leaves the platform in only a few narrow, necessary cases: Apple and Google carry push notifications to your phone, the screening service checks a visitor name against the registry, and emergency dispatch receives the school address when an alert fires.
EduLens is built to meet COPPA, FERPA, and state student privacy law, including New York Education Law 2-d. You can ask your school for a copy of everything the platform holds about your child, and you can ask for it to be deleted. The request goes through your school office, which is where that decision belongs.
Getting set up takes about four minutes
Four steps, one of which everyone forgets. Have your invitation email and your school code handy.
- 1
Install the app
Search for EduLens K-5 in the App Store or on Google Play, or use the buttons below. It is free for families. If you would rather not install anything, everything works in a browser at app.k5.edulens.net.
- 2
Have your school code ready
The first screen asks for a short school code before your email. Your school will give it to you, and it is in the invitation email. You enter it once on each device and the app remembers it. This is the single most common reason a family cannot sign in.
- 3
Sign in with your invitation
Your school sends an invitation to the email address it has on file for you. If it never arrived, check the spam folder first, then ask the office to confirm which address they have. You can set up a passkey, which signs you in with the same face or fingerprint check that unlocks your phone, so you are not typing a password at 7:40 in the morning.
- 4
Turn on notifications
This is the step families skip and then wonder why they missed the early dismissal. Allow notifications when asked. You can turn individual categories off later, so you are not choosing between everything and nothing.

Your school gives you the code and the invitation. Everything else happens in the app.
Questions families actually ask
No. Neither app requests location permission, because neither app uses location. Dismissal is verified by scanning a card at the door the child leaves from, which tells the school the child left and from where, and nothing else. There is no live map and no location history.
No, and that is by design. Emergency alerts go to staff and, for a lockdown or shelter-in-place, automatically to 911. Your school communicates with families separately, through an announcement, on its own timing. The alert exists to get help moving in the first sixty seconds.
Not through EduLens. Messaging happens inside the app, between accounts. No personal phone numbers are exchanged in either direction, which is also why teachers can answer a message without giving out their own.
Tell the office. They deactivate the lost card immediately, which makes it useless to anyone who finds it, and print a replacement. The old code stops working the moment it is deactivated.
Submit the change in the app and a staff member confirms it. For a stretch of days, a vacation or a recovery, you can submit the whole range at once instead of one day at a time.
No. One account covers every child you are linked to. You switch between them in the app, and what you see is always only your own children.
You control it by category. Turn off the ones you do not want and keep the ones you do, so it is not a choice between everything and nothing. Most families keep dismissal and absence notifications on and turn the rest down.
No. Everything a parent can do in the app can be done in a web browser at app.k5.edulens.net, on a computer or a tablet. The app is more convenient, particularly for notifications, but it is not required.
Yes. More than one parent or guardian can be linked to the same child, each with their own account and their own notifications. Ask the school office to add the second address.
